Keys or tokens?
Choose between an organization key and a personal access token.
Use an organization key when the credential runs something for the whole team: a CRM sync, a data pipeline, an automation tool. It keeps working when the person who created it leaves, and only people who manage keys can create or revoke it.
Use a personal access token when the credential runs something for you: a script on your laptop, a spreadsheet you refresh. It can never do more than you can, it stops working if you leave the organization, and it expires after 90 days unless you choose a longer life, up to a year.
| If… | Use |
|---|---|
| Several people depend on it | An organization key |
| It should outlive your membership | An organization key |
| Only you use it | A personal access token |
| You don't have permission to manage keys | A personal access token |
