# Prospect a company

Get the companies worth approaching into your pipeline, and decide which to call first.

<Note title="Company search is on its way">
  The **Prospecting** page will let you search companies by segment and city and save the best ones straight to your pipeline. Until it ships, companies arrive through an AI agent or the API, as below.
</Note>

## Add companies with an AI agent

The fastest way today is to let an AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, add them for you through LeadUp's MCP server.

<Steps>

<Step title="Connect your assistant">

Follow [Connect an agent](/mcp) once, and grant it permission to add companies (`leads:create`).

</Step>

<Step title="Describe the companies you're after">

Ask in plain words, for example: *"Add these three dental clinics in Campinas as prospects: Clínica Sorriso Pleno, Odonto Vida and Dental Prime."* The agent creates each company in your workspace.

</Step>

<Step title="Check them in Companies">

They show up in **Companies** and in the **Prospect** column of the pipeline, for your whole team.

</Step>

</Steps>

## Add companies from your own tools

If your leads live in a spreadsheet, a form or another CRM, a developer can send them to LeadUp with the [API](/guides/first-request): one request per company, with its name, segment, city and contact details.

## Decide who to call first

A good prospect list is short. Before you reach out, check each company:

- **Does it fit?** The segment and city you serve best, and a size that can pay for what you sell.
- **Can you reach a person?** A phone number, an email or a contact name beats a generic inbox.
- **Is there a reason to talk now?** A new location, a poor website or an outdated profile gives you an opening line.

Start with the companies that tick all three, and move each one to **Contacted** as soon as you reach out.
